Refugee Week 2015

During Refugee Week 2015 Auburn City Council ran a simulated refugee camp for school students, the general public and professional development staff.  People from the community who are former refugees or asylum seekers guided refugees through an interactive exhibition to experience and understand the lengthy difficult journeys that displaced people face. The tours covered the dangers and reasons for fleeing your home right through to the hurdles you face as a resident in a new country.

Auburn City Council asked ReRu to collaborate on a 3 minute promotional and a full educational video to present the experience to people who could not attend.  Michelle produced both of videos and had the privilege of working with many of the former refugees and tour guides.

The videos were bought by hundreds of schools for education and the model for the Refugee Camp in ‘My Neighbourhood’ has been picked up by many other councils and groups even extending globally to the USA.

Auburn Council will expand the event in 2016.
